I recall a quote that goes something like this:

Only friendships that can stand some straight-talking from time to time are worth keeping.

If you'll forgive the gross misquotation, I believe the main point comes out quite clearly.

Sometimes it strikes me that my friends are all that I have here in London, and tonight I am, for some reason or other, thankful for them.
